Traffic stop leads to seizure of unmarked tobacco products

On April 22 at approximately 8 p.m., officers of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Hwy 401 in Greater Napanee.

The vehicle was stopped and while speaking with the driver and passenger the officer observed what appeared to be unmarked tobacco products within the vehicle. Both the driver and passenger were placed under arrest. As a result of the investigation.

The vehicle driver, a 32-year-old of Ottawa, has been charged with:

  • Trafficking in Contraband Tobacco
  • Pocession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000 – in Canada
  • Speeding 1-49 Km/h over posted speed limit
  • Having care and control of a motor vehicle with liquor readily available

The vehicle passenger, a 32 of no fixed address, has been charged with:

  • Trafficking in Contraband Tobacco
  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Fail to properly wear seat belt

Both were released on an undertaking and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on June 13, 2023.
