Traffic stop for stunt driving leads to drug charges

Police say they recovered drugs and a scale from a driver that was speeding on Hwy 401 in Napanee.

On Sept. 5 at approximately 6 p.m., a member of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) East Region Highway Safety Division was conducting enforcement on Highway 401 in the Greater Napanee when the officer noted a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed.

The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver was placed under arrest for stunt driving.  During the course of the investigation officers seized cannabis and unmarked cigarettes.

As a result of the investigation a 52-year-old of Kingston, has been charged with:

  • Three counts of Possession of a schedule I substance for purpose of trafficking (Cocaine, Methamphetamine, and Fentanyl)
  • Possession of schedule I substance ( Cocaine, Methamphetamine and Fentanyl)
  • Possession of break-in instruments
  • Having cannabis readily available
  • Possession of unmarked cigarettes
  • Stunt driving

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on Dec. 7.
