Three separate stunt driving charges laid within 24 hours on Hwy 401

Members of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged three drivers in separate stunt driving related investigations.

On April 1 at approximately 10 p.m., officers observed a vehicle travelling 157 km/hr on Hwy 401 westbound by Palace Road.

As a result, a 29 year old male, from Scarborough was charged with:

  • Dive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed

On April 2 at approximately 3 a.m., officers observed a vehicle travelling 181 km/hr on Hwy 401 westbound by Palace Road.

As a result, a 21 year old male, from Brampton, was charged with:

  • Dive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed

Also on April 2, at approximately 3:30 p.m., officers observed a vehicle travelling 171 km/hr on Hwy 401 eastbound by County Road 41.

As a result, a 54 year old male, from Brockville was charged with:

  • Dive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed

All accused are scheduled to appear at the Provincial Offences Court in Greater Napanee at a later date. All accused had their licenses suspended for 30 days, and vehicles were impounded for 14 days.

On April 1, at approximately 11 p.m., officers responded to a traffic complaint on Glastonbury Road in Northbrook.

Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. As part of the investigation, an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was administered, and the driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing.

As a result a 35 years old of Tamworth was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

On April 2, at approximately 4 a.m., officers responded to a traffic complaint on Main Street in Newburgh.

Officers located the vehicle, and the driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the detachment.

As a result a 24-year-old of Newburgh was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration

All accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee at a later date. Their licenses were suspended for 90 days, and vehicles were impounded for seven days.
