Hypnotism, ventriloquism, country music, farm animals, a midway and, of course, cars smashing into each other —the 187th annual Lennox Agricultural Napanee Fair promises to have it all.
It all kicks off this Friday with the midway opening at 4 p.m. followed by the tractor pull competition at 6 p.m.
Napanee’s own Buzz Collins will make his first ever appearance at the fair at 7:30 p.m. with his Comedy Hypnotist Show, which will be a licensed event inside the Lennox and Addington Agricultural Arena starting at 7:30 p.m. Admission to Collins’ show is included with the price of a fair pass.
Saturday’s events include Yvette Locke and her Farm Friends children’s ventriloquist show at 2 p.m. in the area as well as a horse show, fair exhibits, Bubble Zone outdoor activity centre and the official opening, held at 8 p.m. at the grandstand. That’ll be followed by Napanee Has Talent at 8:30 p.m.
“Typically in the past we’ve had the talent show on Friday, but we decided to move it and incorporate it in with the opening ceremonies,” said Krissy Martin, secretary-treasurer for this year’s Napanee Fair.
“They keep growing each year so we figured with the entertainment of the opening ceremonies, why not showcase some local entertainment.”
This will mark the seventh year of the talent show, which features three age divisions.
The Lennox and Addington 4-H Club will offer exhibits, demonstrations and judged events for a wide assortment of farm animals throughout the weekend as well.
“They have their project building that will have different club boards where they make different crafts as well as the 4-H animal barn,” said Martin.
She noted that several of the 4-H Clubs will also be holding demonstrations for fellow kids who may be interested in joining a club this fall.
Sunday will feature another show from Locke and her Farm Friends, again at 2 p.m. along with fair exhibits, pony pull, swine show, midway attractions and several other events throughout the day. The evening will be capped off with a performance by Wes Mack and Johnson Crook at 7:30 p.m. at the arena. Tickets for the country music concert are separate from the fair admission and are $20 in advance, $25 at the door or $10 for kids 10 and under. On Monday the fair closes with the always-popular demolition derby, which gets underway at 2 p.m.

Daily passes to the fair are $8 per person or $20 per person for a weekend pass. Children 10 and under are free. Passes are available at Country Depot or at the office at 170 York Street.
