Lennox and Addington County General Hospital Foundation’s fifth annual gala, to be held Feb. 7 at the Westdale Complex, will have a decidedly local touch.

Kingston’s own The Abrams will provide the entertainment. The well-known duo, made up of John Abrams and James Abrams, combine a mix of bluegrass, country and folk-rock in a blend that has been dubbed “newgrass.” They hold the distinction of being the youngest Canadian duo to ever play the famous Grand Ole Opry stage in Nashville, TN, doing so in 2005 at the age of 12 and 15.

They’ve released six full-length albums, with their latest released in 2016 simply titled The Abrams. It would go on to earn them a Country Music Association of Ontario Award for roots artists or group of the year, as well as nominations for group or duo of the year and the rising star award.

Adding to the fun, there will be an interactive photo booth onsite, capable of creating all sorts of unique and quirky backgrounds.

Keeping with the local theme, the menu, provided by Cedar Crest Catering, will be chalk full of homegrown content.

“They’re going to try and get as many local things as they can do,” said gala co-chair Mike Airhart. “Cheese, wine and beer will all have a local flare.”

As always, tickets are selling quickly as the event is nearly 80 per cent sold out. Sponsorship opportunities are still available at the gold level ($5,0000) silver ($2,500), patron ($1,000) as well as decoration and wine sponsor.

Tickets, which include the entertainment and fully catered meal, are $125 each with a $75 tax receipt.

Money raised from the event will once again go toward the purchase of a CT Scan for the hospital.

Ticket requests and sponsorship inquiries can be directed to the LACGH Foundation office located inside the hospital or by phone at 613-354-3301 ext. 400.

To date the previous four galas have brought in $222,000 for the hospital.

“Everybody who lives in this area is so generous when it comes to the hospital and the foundation,” said Airhart, noting they see a lot of familiar faces at each gala as well as several new ones each year.

The Feb. 7 event will begin with cocktails at 6:30 p.m.
