Terry Richardson to be acclaimed as mayor of Greater Napanee, race to be held for deputy mayor and all wards

Greater Napanee’s mayoral race is over before it even begun, as Terry Richardson will face no competition in the Oct. 24 municipal election.

No other candidates registered ahead of Friday’s 4 p.m. deadline, meaning Richardson, currently councillor for Ward 2, will be acclaimed as mayor, succeeding Marg Isbester, who did not seek re-election.

While there will be no race for mayor, there will be plenty of other races to fill out the council horseshoe.

Deputy mayor is a three horse race, all new comers as Max Kaiser has opted not to seek re-election. John McCormack, Brian Calver and Eric DePoe will all appear on the ballot for deputy mayor.

Ward 1 candidates are: Tony Balasevicius, Michael Schenk and Matt Potwarka.

Ward 2’s candidates are: Terry Cook, Les Humphries and Angela Hicks.

Ward 3 offers the most choice with Dave Pinnell Jr., John South, Don Stokes and Richard Pringle all registered.

Ward 4 features Bob Norrie, Josh Hayter and Jeff Chestnut.

Ward 5 includes Ellen Johnson, Casey Wells and Bill Martin.

Each of the Public School Board Trustees has just one registered candidate. English Public (Limestone District School Board) is Tiffany Lloyd.

English Separate (Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board is Jacqueline Fernandes.

French Public (Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario) is Rachel Laforest.

French Separate (Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est) is Michel Charron.
