Tamworth resident Rosemary Adams requested two things for her 100th birthday: a tea party and a chocolate fudge cake.

The birthday girl got what she wanted on Wednesday as the village celebrated her centennial birthday at the Black Cat Café.

Guests were free to drop in throughout the two-hour celebration, which included a brief retrospection on her life so far.

Born in Oxford, England on April 5, 1923, she met her husband Bill in 1944.

Following the war the couple moved to Philadelphia. One fateful day they took a trip over the border to Tamworth to do some fishing. They quickly fell in love with the area, purchasing some land in the mid 1970s, soon becoming well-known members of the community through their involvement with the local Legion.

“I never imagined I’d make it to 100, I never though much of it. But now I love it,” she told guests gathered at the café to celebrate her big day. “I love Tamworth. And I just told a man called Rob Fenwick (Stone Mills councillor) that I want to become a Canadian citizen. I’m still a British subject. Before I go, I’m going to be a Canadian.”
