SWEET, Gary
November 13, 1947 – May 17, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Sweet. Gary passed away peacefully at the John M Parrott Centre on Wednesday May 17, 2023, after a rather short battle with Dementia.
Gary had a 29-year career with Northern Telecom/Nortel/Belden where he spent many of his scheduled days off as well as his shifts learning new skills that he carried with him for the rest of his life. Gary truly enjoyed his career working on the insulating machines. Gary made lifelong friendships with his co-workers. Prior to working at Northern, Gary worked for a paving company being the youngest foreman the company had at that time. Gary liked to point out how the paving should be done for the pavement to last a lifetime.
Gary is survived by his wife of 53 years Catherine (nee Sedore), his children Scott (Mary Jane Roddick Latocha) and Sarah Harrington (Rick). His five grandchildren were his pride and joy Joseph, Brendan, Abbigail, Hannah, Alexander, and Liam. Survived by his siblings Delmar (Shirley), Norma Thompson (Arthur), Shirley, Ann Sutherland (Sandy). Lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his parents Harold and Violet Sweet. Predeceased by his siblings Lewis (Irene), Ray (Lona), Irene Abbott (William), Meryl, Steve (Sharon), Eleanor (Gary).
Cremation has taken place with Milestone Cremation Services. A small graveside service will be held on Wednesday May 24, 2023, at Camden V Cemetery 1433 Hinch Rd. Newburgh, ON at 11:00am.
