Suspect attempts to flee police, one of three arrested on weapon, drugs, stolen property charges

A trio of Quebec residents are facing drugs, weapons and stolen property charges following a routine traffic stop by Lennox and Addington OPP on Hwy 401 near Loyalist on May 15.

During the course of their investigation, the officer observed cannabis improperly stored inside the vehicle and began a search. During that search, the officer discovered evidence of other criminal activity and placed all three of the vehicle occupants under arrest.

At that point, one individual fled on foot into a nearby swampy area with some property from the vehicle. The individual was taken into custody a short time later and the property was recovered.

A handgun, a loaded magazine, in excess of $30,000 in cash, a number of credit/debit cards and other property was seized from the vehicle and from the area in which the person fled. The vehicle has also been seized.

A 23-year-old of Lasalle, Quebec is charged with possession of the proceeds of crime, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, transporting a firearm in a careless manner; and possession of a prohibited device or ammunition for a dangerous purpose.

A 21-years-old of Chateauguay, Quebec is charged with possession of the proceeds of crime, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, transporting a firearm in a careless manner; and possession of a prohibited device or ammunition for a dangerous purpose.

A 21-year-old, of Montreal, Quebec is charged with possession of the proceeds of crime, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, transporting a firearm in a careless manner, possession of a prohibited device or ammunition for a dangerous purpose, obstructing a peace officer and resisting a peace officer.

All three accused remain in custody and will appear in a bail court via video link on Monday. The investigation remains underway and further charges are possible.
