Strong start for Stars in OMHA playdowns

With Ontario play downs beginning, the Napanee Midget Stars are off to a great start, with a 5-2 win over Stirling at the SPC on Saturday. Logan Votary scored short handed from the point on a perfect feed from Adam Burger. Keegan Makpah made it 2-0 from the top of the circle set up by Votary and Mason Barker. In the second period, Corbin Gibson added to the total on a two-on-one rush, and Jacob Boutilier put one under the crossbar from far out, with assists to Gibson and Barker. In the third, the locals gave up a pair of power-play goals, but Nate Brant added insurance as the trailer when Kyle Garrett broke in alone, and fed the puck out from behind the net. Nick Kennelly also assisted. Murray Craig gained the goaltending win. The unofficial shot count was 36-13 for the Stars. Sunday, in Stirling, they continued their dominance winning 9-1. Game 3 at the SPC is Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

-The Peewee BBs put forth a strong performance to defeat Stirling 4-2. Jayden Holden popped in a rebound after Nic Campeau broke in on left wing with a fine shot. Ethan Boutilier also assisted. Campeau made it 2-1 on the power play, with helpers from Blake Wood and Holden.  Tie Wood fired the winner from the point early in the third frame with an assist to Cooper Harris. Zered Haller added another tally when he tipped Blake Wood’s shot, again on the power play.  The Stars controlled much of the play, out-shooting their opponents 35-18. Aiden Difazio was solid in net. Game 3 is Sunday at 4 p.m.

-The Napanee Exit Realty Acceleration Bantams opened their first round series with Stirling with a solid performance to win 6-0. Two minutes in, Jack Osborne scored on a goalmouth scramble, assisted by Jacob Wood and Zach Slaven. Seconds later, Gavin Brooks added to the total. Slaven had an easy rebound on a point shot by Owen Gibson. Will Myers was also in on the play.

Daniel Chase scored on a similar play from Marshall Maracle and Jacob Dacosta. Jason Cameron scored short handed into an empty net, and Cameron Pearson tallied from Brooks seconds later. The boys had a territorial advantage throughout, outshooting the Blues 40-12. They play Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

-The Joyce’s Meat and Deli Atom BBs skewered Stirling 14-0 to gain two playoff points in the five point series. Matthew Airhart had five goals, while Wyatt Whalen, Kohen Cutler, Wyatt Albright and Lucas Asselstine each tallied twice while Drew Osborne had a single. They now travel to Sarnia for the Silver Stick Finals this weekend, before continuing against Stirling.

-The Napanee Novice Stars had a rough start in their six team round robin as Stirling defeated them 9-3 on Saturday. Back home on Sunday, they were shut out 6-0, again by Stirling.

-The Peewee AE team overpowered their opponents in Ennismore on Sunday, winning 11-2. They’ll be back in Napanee the Goodyear rink on Saturday at 5 p.m.
