Strong showing for Stars at OMHA Provincials

The Napanee Stars were well represented at the OMHA Provincial Championship Weekends.

The Napanee Desjardins Insurance U13 Stars, playing in Barrie, ended with a 1-1-1 record. In Game 1, playing the eventual championship winners, Mooretown, they fell 4-1. After a scoreless first, they spotted their opponents three goals before getting a power play marker midway in the third, and giving up an empty net tally late. Friday night, facing Aurora AE2’s, they got the first four goals, before their foes got a power play goal, but Napanee prevailed 4-1. Facing Greater Fort Erie on Saturday, the locals again fell behind by four, but rallied to tie their adversaries at 6-6. This tied them with Ft. Erie in points, but Ft. Erie had a higher goal differential to advance.

The Napanee U18 Stars were in the 12 team OMHA Championship in Windsor. They had a very successful first game to defeat Centre Wellington 3-1. They got the only goal of the first, added two power play goals in the second, but did give up a short handed goal. They rolled over Greater Fort Erie 5-2 in their second match. The Stars tallied three times before their foes came back with two. The third period, however, was all Napanee with a goal, and an empty net tally to put them in first in Division 4. Saturday night, they crossed over to play Parry Sound in a tight match. Their opposition tallied three times, before the Stars could score late in the second. The locals came out strong in the third with two power play goals to tie things up at three. Sadly, Parry Sound would end the Stars season, scoring with 6:54 left to win 4-3.
