What Tamworth’s Stone Mills Family Market lacks in size, they hope to make up for in spirit as they attempt to win $5,000 for the local food bank.

Staff at the Market are encoring shoppers to enter Sobey’s Community Cash contest by logging onto CommunityCash.ca once a day and selecting the Stone Mills Family Market. Each time they do so, the store is entered in a province wide contest to win $5,000 for a charity of their choice, which would be the New Legacy Centre. Individual customers will also have the chance to win a $500 shopping spree.

“The more times you enter the better chance you have of winning,” said Deon Reid of the Stone Mills Family Market.

They’ll need as much support as possible as they’ll be up against Sobey’s wholesale stores from across Ontario, some much bigger than Tamworth. A total of three stores in the Ontario region will be awarded the cash donation.

Along with encouraging shoppers to enter the contest, the Tamworth store is also hosting a food drive Nov. 5-26. A basket will be set up at the front of the store and all donated items will go to the New Legacy Centre, which works in partnership with the Morningstar Mission to deliver warm meals to those in need.

“If nothing else, we’re going to have some food for them,” Reid says of holding the food drive along with attempting to win the provincial contest.
