On Friday, the Napanee Canadian Tire Peewee AEs travelled to Ennismore to start their OMHA playoffs, and dominated their hosts 9-1. Luc Asselstine led the way with two goals and three assists. Lucas Thiessen also tallied two goals and an assist. Singles were netted by Cooper Lake, Gavin Raney, Nate Vanberkel, Ashton Hoyle, and Ethan Kouri. After Saturday’s game was scrubbed by the snowstorm, they repeated their fine performance in Napanee on Sunday, again winning 9-1. The locals tallied once in each of the first two periods, and then ran up the score in the third. Vanberkel had a hat trick in the third, while Kouri and Asselstine each had a pair, and Cruz Maracle and Coulson South notched singles.
-The AFW Construction Atoms earned a win loss and tie, but had to settle for ninth place in the 16 team International Silver Stick Finals held in Sarnia. With only eight teams advancing, they missed the semis as a result of their plus-minus rating after the round robin. They had tied King Rebellion 3-3 in the Friday morning game, and lost 3-1 to Sudbury’s Nickel City. Saturday, they bounced back 5-1 over Plymouth, Michigan. They await the winner of the Lindsay/ Stirling playoff series.
-The Conger Plumbing Atom AEs, after a playoff cancellation on Saturday, took a tough 3-2 loss facing Ennismore at the Strathcona Paper Centre on Sunday. The teams traded goals in each of the first two periods. Liam Mulder went coast-to-coast sent away by Nathan Zwiers in the first, and Jadon McNamee scored on the rebound of Jacob Lyons’ initial shot. They thought they had it won in the third, but their apparent goal was called back, the result of a high stick call. With 2:39 remaining in overtime, their guests scored when a puck took an extraordinary bounce out of the corner leading to the winner. The locals outshot their opponents 31-25. Kolten Good got the start in net, relieved by Ethan Sabramsky-Nichol after Good was run over by a winger with 8:57 left in overtime.
-After their weather related game cancellation last weekend, the Calderwood Automation Bantams were scheduled to restart their playoffs last night at the SPC. The Windoorman Midgets rescheduled start was slated for last night as well. Results were not available at press time. Meanwhile, the Country Butcher Shop Peewee BBs will start their playoffs in Lindsay on Saturday with a 2:30 p.m. start.
