Here we bring you a list of some of the reads we’ve recently enjoyed. This month you’ll find chick-lit, historical fiction, epic fantasy and a heart-wrenching Can-Lit memoir.
-Jennifer suggests Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb
“Maybe You Should Talk to Someone gives a candid and moving account of struggles we all experience from her vantage point as a psychotherapist who pursues therapy herself (this is standard practice in the industry.)
Gottlieb reveals how the stories we tell ourselves both reflect and deflect our concerns and therapy offers a mirror to illuminate “what we can’t yet see.”
Her patient profiles are real-life amalgamations told as episodic stories. If you are curious about the benefits of therapy, enjoy memoirs or like to learn more broadly about society and culture, this read may be right for you!”

“We All Fall Down is the perfect mishmash of mystery, historical fiction and medical thriller. When a plague-like illness strikes Genoa, it is up to Dr. Alana Vaughan, an infectious disease expert working for NATO, to figure out whether it is bioterrorism or a resurgence of the Black Death. It is a race against the clock to find the cause and cure as she teams up with experts from the World Health Organization, the AISE (Italy’s FBI) and a fellow doctor with whom she shares a complicated past. This book is ideal for those that like a fast paced read that has a bit of everything.”

“This riveting true story is about an unlikely hero: a young Frenchwoman of privilege, who became the only woman to serve as a chef de résistance during WWII. The author supplies background information on the start of the war, the splitting of France into two parts, and the setting up and carrying out of the intricate and dangerous espionage done by Fourcade and her team. Her group, ‘Alliance’, was responsible for supplying the Allies with more vital information than any other group in France. This well-researched and gripping true story grabs the reader and doesn’t let go.”

“This touching romantic novel is based on the endlessly popular question ‘If you could have dinner with any five people, living or dead, who would they be?’ At the beginning, Sabrina is introduced. She and her best friend Jessica celebrate their birthdays each year with a dinner out. However, Sabrina is shocked when she enters a restaurant on her 30th birthday to see not only Jessica, but also her estranged father, a former teacher, her ex-boyfriend and an annoyed Audrey Hepburn all seated at the table. This novel gets a full five stars from me since the author was talented enough to create such an addictive story that left me in tears!”
