On April 8 a rare total eclipse will occur and the L&A County region will experience complete coverage from the sun.

To mark the occasion, Lennox and Addington County Libraries will host a PA Day Fun Eclipse Extravaganza, from 11 a.m. to noon at the Amherstview branch and from 2-3 p.m. at the Napanee branch.

The event will feature crafts, games and all kinds of fun relating to the once-in-a-lifetime event. Registration is required at www.landalibraries.as.me. Participants will receive a free pair of solar eclipse glasses while supplies last.

Later in the day, the Town of Greater Napanee will be hosting a solar eclipse event from 2-4 p.m. at the Strathcona Paper Centre soccer field.

Guests are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and ISO-Certified glasses. A handful of glasses will be available on a first-come, first serve basis.

The School House Band will be performing as well.

The eclipse is expected to begin around 2 p.m. with the full eclipse taking place around 3:20 p.m. in Napanee.

Loyalist Township will also be in the ‘path of totality’, starting around 2:09 p.m. with total coverage around 3:23 p.m.

They’re warning residents to expect higher than normal traffic that time as visitors from across Ontario are expected to make the trip to the Kingston region to witness the event.
Bath’s MacKinnon Brothers Brewery will be hosting a Total Eclipse of the Farm event that afternoon at 1915 County rd. 22 in Bath. More details are available on their Facebook event page.
As a note of caution, looking into the sun with uncovered eyes can cause retinal burns, blurred vision and loss of eyesight. There are no pain sensors in the retina to indicate damage is being done.
