A civilian died following an interaction with an officer with the Lennox and Addington OPP in Stone Mills Township.
Just before 6 p.m. on Tuesday members of the L&A OPP responded to a single vehicle collision on Fifth Lake Road in Stone Mills. They were called to the scene by a resident who noticed a vehicle in the ditch. Upon going to check on the driver, the resident was told by the driver to go away and he had guns. Shortly after OPP arrived on the scene. There was an interaction between an officer and another individual, with the officer discharging his firearm multiple times and struck the man in the car. As a result of the interaction, a 48-year-old man is deceased.
No details on the person’s identity were released at press time. As with any incident involving a civilian’s death, the OPP have called in the province’s Special Investigations Unit. The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about the incident to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.
