Senior of the Year nominations sought

Greater Napanee has once again put out the call for nominations for their Senior of the Year Award. Members of the public can nominate candidates who are over the age of 65 and explain how their dedication has had a positive influence on the town.

An open call for nominations was made by deputy mayor Marg Isbester during a recent council meeting. The successful nomination will receive a certificate by the Ontario government signed by the lieutenant governor, minister of senior affairs and Greater Napanee mayor Gord Schermerhorn.

Nominations for the award must be submitted to Brianna Clement, communications intern with the town, by April 17 at 4 p.m. They can be dropped off at 12 Market Square or via e-mail to bclement@greaternapanee.com. Last year’s winner was Bill Casselman.

The annual Senior of the Year Award was established in 1994 and is available to be awarded in each municipality in Ontario. It’s given to a resident over the age of 65 who has enriched the social, cultural or civic life of their community. The purpose of the award is to pay tribute to their accomplishment while simultaneously showing how seniors can make a difference in the lives of those around them.
