Selby Public School switching to remote learning effective tomorrow

Selby Public School will be moving to remote learning effective Wednesday.

The following email was sent to families of the school:

“We have just been informed by KFL&A Public Health that a staff member at Selby Public School has tested positive for COVID-19. Due to more rigid self-isolation requirements recently implemented by Public Health to help combat the presence of the Omicron variant in our region, we find ourselves without ample staff to safely operate in-person learning.

As a result, all students will pivot to remote learning beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, Dec.  15. We are sorry for the short notice, but we cannot operate classes safely without sufficient staffing in place.  We will share more detailed instructions from Public Health on which class cohorts are directly impacted tomorrow. Public Health is still in the process of identifying all close contacts of the positive individual. More detailed information will come tomorrow once its investigation is complete. We will then know which classes will be required to isolate and undergo testing.

Classroom teachers will reach out to families tomorrow with instructions and schedules for the move to remote learning. This will include the need for any devices. We would ask that families pick up devices, rapid test kits (if you didn’t receive them earlier this week) and any personal student belongings between noon to 4 p.m., tomorrow.  Please wear a mask and do not enter the school. Staff will meet you at the main entrance. Please ensure you do not come to the school if you are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19.

We recognize that a pivot with short notice may be stressful, and may present a challenge to some families. Unfortunately, we must transition to remote learning at this time to ensure student and staff safety.

My sincere thanks to all students, families and staff for your understanding and patience as we adapt to constantly changing public health circumstances.”
