Stone Mills councillors heard Monday a partnership with Lennox and Addington County to purchase the former Yarker Family School from the Limestone District School Board is still proceeding.
Chief administrative officer Bryan Brooks said at this stage in the process, the board is only permitted by regulation to sell the building at its market value assessment of $299,000. The County, who has priority to buy the building for childcare services, can take advantage of Stone Mills’ right of first refusal to bring the price down to $150,000. Ultimately, the County’s initial investment will be paid back by child-care centre rents and the building, which houses a library branch, will belong to the township.
In other council news…
– The township will host a special public meeting Monday at 6:30 p.m. to allow the public to give feedback on how the construction of the BluEarth Loyalist Solar Project impacted residents and property owners.
The developer will offer an update on the status and expected completion date of the 54-megawatt installation. Council will also accept suggestions on how development may be improved in the future.
