Spring is in the air at the Salvation Army of Napanee as it plans to host two fundraisers that epitomize the season: Easter and the environment.
The first is their annual Easter egg hunt, which will be held March 24 at the Selby Hall from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
For $5 kids 12 and under will have the chance to take part in a plastic coloured egg hunt on the lawn, as well as join in some arts and crafts.
“We will have pancakes and sausage breakfast,” said Dana Henry, community and family services co-ordinator with the Salvation Army of Napanee. “Then we’ll have the Easter egg hunt for kids. (Money raised) is going to the Poverty Reduction Committee. It’ll be used for our boot campaign and our backpack campaign.”
Following the egg hunt the Salvation Army will get set to host its annual electronics recycle fundraising event, which will run April 16-28.
The event, which has the added benefit of diverting electronics from the landfill while raising money for charity, also happens to take place during international Earth Day celebrations.
Teaming with FEMM International, the two-week fundraiser will be held at the Salvation Army, located at 135 Mill Street on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday April 21 and 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
During that time they’ll be accepting donations of old electronics, which they will then recycle for a profit. They do ask that people first check with www.ontarioelectronicstewardship.ca to make sure that the particular electronic device they are dropping off is one that they will accept. They also ask that they only drop off items when there is a volunteer at the Salvation Army present.
As a reminder, they also encourage anyone to make sure they clear any personal information from hard drives or SIN cards before dropping them off to be recycled.
