Rollover Tuesday on eastbound 401

The eastbound lanes of Hwy 401 remained closed at Deseronto Road through the night Tuesday and into Wednesday morning after another fatal accident involving a tractor-trailer.

The Napanee OPP responded to a collision at about 5:18 p.m. Tuesday  The rollover accident left the tandem tractor-trailer on its side stretched out across both lanes and both shoulders. The OPP reports that two other vehicles were involved in the incident.

Police have confirmed there was one fatality, but no name has been released.

The OPP’s technical traffic collision investigation unit remained at the scene investigating Wednesday morning and the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks. Social media reports suggested there may have been a fuel spill.

Police indicated a further news release could be forthcoming (after press time) as more information becomes available.

– The Napanee OPP is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect they say took electric toothbrushes valued at over $1,600 from Shoppers Drug Mart on Alkenbrack Street Monday.

The man, who was wearing sunglasses spoke to the pharmacist before placing the toothbrushes in a shopping basket. He later concealed them in a red bag and ran out the front entrance of the store, before getting into a blue car behind the store.

The man was described as being older with a shaved or balding head and unshaved face. He was wearing a red ball cap, a black hoodie, and blue jeans.
