Long overdue recognition was given to the late Robert Darrington recently, acknowledging his efforts to bring a hemodialysis unit to Napanee.

Hastings-Lennox and Addington MPP Ric Bresee presented a certificate of recognition on behalf of the province to his daughter Jennifer and widow Shirley.

Robert, who passed away in 2013, was instrumental in bringing the dialysis unit to town, the result of over 25 years of working with the Located Health Integration Network. The unit opened in 2016.

Since its opening plans to recognize Robert’s efforts have been in the works but would wind up falling by the wayside for one reason or another before finally coming to fruition on June 12 with a special visit from the local MPP.

“I just wish he’d been here to see the dialysis unit open. He really worked hard for that, but it wasn’t to be,” said Shirley. “My husband was community orientated he just wanted to see Napanee do so much better.”
