RFLA Allied Health Team to host pair of COPD programs in May

Rural Frontenac Lennox and Addington Allied Health Team will be launching two new programs for people who live with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), held at their Napanee location.

One session will be dedicated to education while the other is an exercise group.

The education group will meet May 10, 17, 24 and 31 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at 310 Bridge Street West in Napanee, with an option to join virtually. Topics covered will include: what is COPD, medication management, how stress and anxiety affect the condition, and how/why exercise and diet plays such an important role in treatment of the condition. The program is facilitated by a respiratory therapist, social worker, kinesiologist and dietician.

The exercise group begins May 25 and will run for nine weeks, each Wednesday from 2:30-4 p.m. also at 31 Bridge Street W with a virtual option.

Topics covered will include the role of exercise in the management of COPD.  Each participant is provided with an individualized, graded and progressive exercise program to suit their abilities.
