Report of suspicious vehicle leads to multiple charges for Napanee driver

The Lennox and Addington OPP has charged a person with multiple offences.

On July 23, at approximately 4 a.m., officers were dispatched to a report of a suspicious vehicle on Oliver Side Road near County Road 1 West in Greater Napanee. It was reported that a vehicle had been parked in a live lane, running, for an extended period of time. Officers responded and located the vehicle and driver. Officers spoke to the driver of the vehicle who was subsequently arrested and transported to detachment for further testing. As part of the investigation, a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer was utilized.

Further investigation revealed the vehicle to have been stolen. A baton and a quantity of suspected methamphetamine was also seized.

As a result, Michael Lessard, age 40, of Napanee was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – drugs
  • Dangerous operation
  • Operation while prohibited under the criminal code – 17 counts
  • Possession of prohibited device or ammunition for dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – methamphetamine
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Driving while under suspension

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

On July 24, just after 8 a.m., officers were dispatched to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Hwy 401 eastbound in Loyalist Township.

Officers attended and spoke with the drivers of the vehicles. One driver was subsequently arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.

No injuries were sustained.

As a result, William Griffith, age 33, of Grande Prairie, Alberta was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Dangerous operation

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on Aug. 20, 2024.

On July 26, just before 3:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to a report of a single vehicle collision on County Road 8 near County Road 22 in Greater Napanee.

Officers attended and spoke with the driver who was subsequently arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.

No injuries were sustained.

As a result, a 19-year-old from Kingston was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Dangerous operation
  • Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero
  • Young driver – B.A.C. above zero

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on August 20, 2024.
