A familiar foe stands in the way of the Napanee Raiders and a trip to the Schmalz Cup finals in the form of the Alliston Hornets.
The Hornets topped the Mount Forest Patriots in overtime in Friday’s Game 6 of the North Conference finals to earn their spot in the Schmalz Cup semifinals against Napanee. Game 1 will take place Wednesday in Napanee at 7:30 p.m. Dates for the rest of the series are yet to be announced.
Though they never face-off in the regular season, there is a bit of history between these two Junior C clubs. The Hornets knocked off the Raiders six games back in 2010, en route to a Schmalz Cup championship, their most recent provincial championship. The Hornets returned to the finals in 2011 and 2012, but lost both times to Grimsby.
The Hornets were 29-9-2-2 in the Carruthers Division this season.
