Showing no signs of rust following the holiday break, the Napanee Raiders cruised to a 9-1 road victory over the Campbellford Rebels last night.
Riley Steeves scored just 30 seconds into the game, setting the tone for the onslaught of goals that was soon to follow. That was the first of three on the night for Steeves, who scored at the 6:11 mark of the first and completed the hat trick 7:34 into the second.
Napanee had a 6-0 edge after the first period and then tacked on two more in the second and one in the third. Jake Campbell, Zach Knapp-Hermer, Devon King and Brendan Hagerman each had a goal while Ryan Casselman had a pair.
Matthieu Piazzi had the Rebels’ lone goal, breaking the shutout at the 15:51 mark of the third. Nicholas Nabuurs earned the win with 22 saves. His counterpart, Dryden Bedard, took the loss, allowing all nine goals while stopping 61.
This game was a makeup of an earlier scheduled game, which was postponed when the ice resurfacer at Campbellford’s Seymour Community Centre malfunctioned.
The win was Napanee’s eighth in a row while the loss was Campbellford’s 29th straight as they continue to search for a first win on the year.
Napanee returns to home ice for the first time in nearly a month when they host the Picton Pirates tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday they travel to Port Hope for a key showdown with the second place Panthers.
