Another dominant performance in Game 3 has put the Napanee Raiders just one win away from sweeping the Alliston Hornets and securing their first Schmalz Cup appearance in 23 years.
Napanee took the commanding 3-0 series lead at home Sunday with a solid 5-0 victory. Nicholas Nabuurs earned the shutout, turning away 22 shots.
Austin Labelle opened the scoring at the 16:11 mark of the first, with the assist from Ryan Casselman. Labelle returned the favour in the second, assisting on two of Casselman’s goals, the first at 5:36 the second at 17:10. Cameron Sheehy was credited with an assist on Casselman’s second goal as well.
Justynn Steven notched a quick goal in the third to push the Raider lead to 4-0 and Curtis Marrison piled on another at the three minute mark.
Napanee doubled the Hornets in shots, firing 44 at Tyler Ryan.
The Raiders will look to close out the sweep on Wednesday when they travel to Alliston for Game 4. If the Hornets can avoid a loss, Game 5 would go Friday in Napanee at 7:30 p.m.
Meanwhile in the other semifinal bracket, the Exeter Hawks lead the Grimsby Peach Kings 2-1 in their best-of-seven. Game 4 goes tonight in South Huron.
