Hunter Leonard made quite the impact in his Napanee Raiders debut on Sunday as the AP player scored the go ahead goal with just over a minute left in the team’s 4-3 victory over the hometown Amherstview Jets.
The goal helped the Raiders complete the comeback. After the two teams battled to a 2-2 draw over the first two periods, Amherstview’s Jag Masters put his team up 3-2 with an early third period power-play goal. Ryan Casselman responded for Napanee just over four minutes later with a power-play goal of his own.
Justynn Steven and Tyler Ignazzitto had one goal each in the first two periods for Napanee.
Jeremy Piazzi earned the win, stopping 23 Jet shots.
With the win, the Raiders have now won all eight of their head-to-head regular season meetings with the Jets this season. That bodes well for the Raiders, as the Jets will be their first round opponent in the PJHL’s Tod Division semifinals, which gets underway Feb. 20.
Napanee still has some unfinished business to tend to before that however, as they aim to win their final three regular season games and establish a new franchise record in wins. They’ll take on the Gananoque Islanders tomorrow night at the SPC for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop. On Thursday they travel to Picton to face the Pirates before closing out the regular season at home against the Islanders. Puck drop is 7:30 p.m.
