Police use tire deflation device to stop driver accused of hit and run involving a cruiser

On Sunday at approximately 8:30 a.m. officers of the Lennox & Addington  OPP were dispatched to assist Central Hasting OPP with a vehicle that failed to remain at the scene of an accident. It had struck another vehicle and refused to stop after also coming into contact with a police cruiser. The vehicle entered the 401 eastbound from Hwy 37 in Hasting County.

L&A County OPP located the vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. Officer utilized a tire deflation device and then police cruisers to stop the vehicle near Deseronto Road. The driver was arrested and transported to detachment.

A 37-year-old man of Nepean, has been charged with

  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Operation while impaired
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Flight from police
  • Failure to stop at the scene of an accident

The accused was further charged with Stunt driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused was held in custody and appeared for a bail hearing via video at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee.

-On Sunday at approximately 6:30 p.m. officers of the Lennox and Addington OPP were on general patrol and observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed southbound on County Road 6 in Loyalist Township. L&A County OPP conducted a traffic stop on Kildare Avenue in Amherstview.

As part of the investigation a Roadside Screening Device was administered and the driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing. As a result of the investigation, L&A County OPP have charged a 35-year-old man of Kingston with

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs; and
  • Operating a motor vehicle while over legal blood alcohol limit.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on Aug. 18. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

-On Saturday at approximately 3:30 p.m. officers of the Lennox and Addington OPP responded to serval reports of an erratic driver. L&A County OPP were able to locate the vehicle a short time later on Hwy 33 just west of Sandhurst shores and conducted a traffic stop.

As part of the investigation a Roadside Screening Device was administered and the driver subsequently arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing. As a result of the investigation, L&A County OPP have charged a 33-year-old man of Colborne with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs; and
  • Operating a motor vehicle while over legal blood alcohol limit.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on Aug. 25. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
