Police Report: Busy weekend for OPP

Local OPP officers had a very labourious Labour Day weekend.

Staff with the Napanee, Loyalist and Kaladar OPP responded to 267 calls for service this holiday weekend. The East Region Highway Safety Division of the OPP, located at the Napanee detachment, wrote 614 traffic tickets over the same period.

Among those incidents was one that happened on Sunday, just after midnight. Officers with the Napanee OPP were patrolling Highway 401 near Palace Road. The officers spotted a vehicle using the emergency turn around and conducted a traffic stop; located inside the vehicle were two occupants.

The male driver, a 21-year-old Cornwall resident, was a suspended driver. He was arrested at scene. The vehicle was searched and officers located what appeared to be prescription medication along with multiple knives.

When officers opened the trunk of the vehicle there was a third man, another 21-year-old Cornwall man, inside.

The first man is charged with three counts of failing to comply with a recognizance of bail.

The second man was charged with three counts of failing to comply with his probation order and two counts of failing to comply with a recognizance of bail.

The two were held and appeared in court the same day in Kingston.

 

• A Marysville woman is facing one count of failing to report an accident following an incident on Monday.

At 1:40 a.m., Napanee OPP officers responded to a single vehicle collision on Melrose Road in Tyendinaga Township. A volunteer fireman came across the vehicle and its occupants in the ditch and contacted police.

According to police, the driver of the vehicle was picked up by an unknown party in a black Chevrolet Silverado before the police arrived. Through investigation, the driver was identified as a 53-year-old woman from Marysville.

The woman was subsequently charged with failing to report an accident. The investigation is ongoing at this time.

• A driver stopped for speeding early Saturday morning ended up facing narcotics charges.

At 8 a.m., an officer with the East Region Highway Safety Division stopped a vehicle for speeding on Highway 401 at Marysville Road.

The 31 year old driver from La Peche, Que., had in his possession what appeared to be approximately 19 grams of cocaine and $4,470 in cash. The driver was arrested at scene for possession and his vehicle towed.

The driver was charged with possession of a Schedule I substance and possession of property obtained by crime. The driver was released on a promise to appear and has his first appearance date on Nov. 7 in provincial court in Napanee.

 

• A man wanted on an arrest warrant with the Ottawa police was picked up by Napanee OPP on Friday.

At 6 p.m., Napanee OPP officers stopped a vehicle on Highway 401 in Tyendinaga Township. The male driver was wanted on warrants by Ottawa Police. According to the OPP, the female passenger initially provided a false name to police. Through investigation her identity was determined and police concluded that she was failing to comply with her release conditions. The male and female were arrested at the scene.

The OPP handed over the custody of the male driver, a 34-year-old from North Dundas, to the Ottawa Police. The female passenger, a 38-year-old from Ottawa, was charged with six counts of failing to comply with a recognizance of bail and two counts of failing to comply with her probation order.

The woman was held in police custody and appeared at bail court at the Ontario Court of Justice in Napanee on Saturday.

 

• Police are investigating a suspicious fire that occurred at the north end of Napanee this weekend.

Early Sunday morning at 12:46 a.m., the Napanee OPP responded to a fire behind the Boyer Chevrolet Oldsmobile dealership on County Road 41.

A trailer behind the dealership was destroyed. The investigation is ongoing.
