Police recover two stolen vehicles, one suspect in custody, search is on for another

Wednesday morning at approximately 2 a.m. officers of the Lennox and Addington County OPP were on patrol and observed a stolen Lexus SUV travelling eastbound on Hwy 401 in Greater Napanee.  Officers initiated a traffic stop and the vehicle initially pulled over. However as officers approached the vehicle it accelerated away at a high rate of speed.

The driver lost control of the vehicle along the County Road 41 off ramp. The lone occupant was arrested.  No one was injured as a result of the collision.

As a result of the investigation police have charged a 21-year-old man from Markham, Ontario with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle,
  • Flight from police
  • Breach of Probation

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Also this morning at approximately 2:30 a.m. L&A County OPP observed another stolen Lexus travelling eastbound on Hwy 401 near Deseronto Road. Officers initiated a traffic stop and the vehicle accelerated away at a high rate of speed.

Police were able to stop the vehicle near Switzerville Road overpass. An OPP Canine search ensued, assisted by the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) when the lone male occupant fled on foot. The search was unsuccessful. The suspect is described as a male dressed in grey pants, a dark jacket and a grey toque.
