Police notes: two people charged with multiple drug offences, one person charged with threat to cause bodily harm

The Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged two people with multiple criminal offences.

In January 2023, officers with L&A County, Frontenac, and Picton CSCU began an investigation into suspected drug trafficking.

As a result of the investigation, on Feb. 3,  L&A County CSCU in conjunction with OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) and Tyendinaga Police Service, executed a search warrant at an address on Lower Slash Road in Tyendinaga First Nation. Nearly 30 grams of suspected methamphetamine, and nearly 30 grams of suspected cocaine were seized, as well as drug paraphernalia and a quantity of cash.

A 44-year-old, of Tyendinaga First Nation, and a 38-year-old, of Inverary, were arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000

Both parties were released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville at a later date.

In January 2023, the L&A County CSCU began an investigation into several break and enters, thefts, and other property related incidents that occurred in L&A County, as well as Frontenac and Centre Hastings.

On Feb. 1 officers responded to an incident where a vehicle was taken without consent, and the victim was subsequently threatened. The suspect was not located, but investigation revealed it to be the same suspect involved in the several other multi-jurisdictional incidents.

As a result of the investigation, on Feb. 8, 2023, members of the L&A County CSCU arrested and charged a 27-year-old of Addington Highlands Township, with:

  • Break and enter a place with intent to commit indictable offence – Two Counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Theft under $5,000 of a motor vehicle
  • Take motor vehicle without consent
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order – Two Counts
  • Fail to comply with probation order – Four Counts
  • Failure to comply with undertaking – Two Counts

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
