Police nab impaired driver while responding to malfunctioning rail crossing

Bad luck for one driver charged with impaired meant potentially safer roads for everyone else.

On Tuesday Lennox and Addington OPP responded to a traffic hazard at County Road 6 in Loyalist and a CN Railway crossing. While waiting for the faulty rail crossing to be repaired, police administered an Approved Screening Device on a driver waiting at the crossing.

As a result of the investigation L&A County OPP have arrested and charged  36-year-old man of Stone Mills contrary to the Criminal Code with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, and
  • Operating a motor vehicle while over legal blood alcohol limit.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on Oct. 6. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
