Police make additional arrest stemming from 2019 opioid related death on TMT

Lennox and Addington OPP have made an additional arrest in connection with a June 2019 opioid-related death.

On June 29, 2019 officers of the OPP, with the assistance of the Tyendinaga Mohawk Police Service, commenced an investigation into the death of a 38-year old female at a home on the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.

A 39-year old male from Belleville was arrested on drug-related charges at the time.

The investigation by the L&A County OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) has continued since then.

On Oct. 21, 2020, as a result of the ongoing investigation, search warrants were executed at two residences in the Belleville area and one male was arrested.

A 56-year-old of Belleville has been charged under the Controlled Drug and Substance Act with:

  • Trafficking cocaine
  • Possession for the purpose of Trafficking Cocaine

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on Dec. 17, 2020.
