Police don’t have to go far to arrest suspected car thief

On July 14 at approximately 9:30 p.m. a motorist was travelling westbound on Hwy 401 in Loyalist Township when they contacted police via 911 to report that they were being followed by another vehicle and felt unsafe.

The complainant drove to the L&A County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment in Greater Napanee and the suspect vehicle did, in fact, follow the complainant from the highway and all the way to the OPP detachment parking lot where officers met with both parties.

During the course of the investigation into the incident, officers determined that the suspect vehicle had, in fact, been reported stolen from the GTA in June.

A 27-year-old of Vaughan, was arrested and has been charged with:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on Sept. 7, 2021.
