Police deploy spike belt to halt driver of stolen vehicle

Through the use of a tire deflation device, L&A OPP were able to bring this vehicle, which was reported stolen by York Police, to a safe stop.

Officers of the Lennox and Addington OPP recovered a stolen vehicle and have charged one male.

On April 22, shortly after 7 a.m., officers from the L&A County OPP responded to a report of a stolen vehicle from York Regional Police. Police located the stolen vehicle driving eastbound on Highway 401 at Marysville Road. Officers confirmed it was the vehicle stolen from York Region and attempted to stop the vehicle. The vehicle failed to stop for police and officers deployed a tire deflation device, also known as a spike belt to safely bring the vehicle to a stop just past the Old Wilton Road overpass. The lone male driver was arrested by police without incident.

As a result of this investigation, L&A County OPP has charged Brandon Farrow-Loiselle, age 31, of Ottawa, with:

  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Operation while prohibited

The accused was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on a later date.
