Police charge two drivers with impaired on New Year’s Eve

A pair of drivers and one passenger ended their 2023 on a bad note after receiving various charges from the Lennox and Addington OPP.

On Dec. 31, shortly after 1 a.m., L&A OPP were on patrol and noticed a possible impaired driver. The vehicle was stopped by police on County Road 2 just west of County Road 4. The lone female driver received a fail reading the the ASD. The female was arrested and brought back to the police detachment for further testing.

As a result of this investigation, L&A County OPP has charged a 24-year-old of Joyceville, Ontario, with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on Jan. 16. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

-Also on Dec. 31, shortly after 11:30 p.m., L&A OPP were on patrol and noticed a possible impaired driver. The vehicle was stopped by police on Amherst Drive by Golf Club Road. The vehicle turned into a residential complex area and a male passenger fled on foot. The female driver received a fail reading the the ASD. The female was arrested and brought back to the police detachment for further testing. The male passenger was located by police a short time later and arrested.

As a result of this investigation, L&A County OPP has charged a 25-year-old of Sydenham, Ontario, with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Failure to comply with undertaking

The accused was held for bail and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on a later date. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

As a result of this investigation, L&A County OPP has charged a 27-year-old of Amherstview with:

  • Failure to comply with undertaking – four counts
  • Resist peace officer

The accused was held for bail and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on a later date.
