Police charge three separate drivers with impaired within a two hour span

Officers of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged three drivers with impaired driving on the same day, within two hours.

On July 25, 2023 around 12 p.m., L&A OPP received a call for service regarding a single motor vehicle collision on Hwy 33 west of Greater Napanee. Initial information provided that one person was still in the passenger seat, and the driver was out of the vehicle, pacing around. Officers arrived on scene and determined that the male driver of the vehicle was showing signs of impairment and the driver was subsequently arrested. The driver was transported back to the L&A detachment for a drug recognition evaluation (DRE). The passenger sustained minor injuries.

As a result of this investigation L&A County OPP have a 50-year-old of Greater Napanee, with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on Aug. 15, 2023. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

-Also on July 25 at approximately 12:30 p.m., L&A OPP were patrolling on County Road 7 in Loyalist Township when they observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, passing vehicles. The vehicle was traveling 148 km/hr in a 80 km/hr zone. The vehicle was stopped and officers determined that the lone driver of the vehicle was showing signs of impairment and an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was administered. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported back to the detachment for further testing.
As a result of this investigation, L&A County OPP have charged a 28-year-old of Greater Napanee, with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Drive motor vehicle – preform stunt – excessive speed

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on Aug. 15. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

And within two hours of the first arrest, this time around 2 p.m., L&A OPP received a call for service regarding a single motor vehicle collision on Hinchey Road, in Shannonville. Officers arrived on scene and located the lone male driver with minor injuries. Officers conducted a Standardized Feild Sobriety Test (SFST) on the lone male driver of the vehicle. The driver was subsequently arrested. The driver was transported back to the L&A detachment for a drug recognition evaluation (DRE).
As a result of this investigation, L&A County OPP have charged a 53-year-old of Shannonville, with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.
The accused was released on an undertaking and is also scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on Aug. 15. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
