Police charge Napanee man with possession of illegal drugs and weapons

Police say a loaded handgun was found during a search of an apartment in Napanee.

OPP’s East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) seized illegal drugs and weapons in Napanee on Thursday.

The Street Crime Unit, including members from the Lennox & Addington, Frontenac and Prince Edward County Detachments, assisted by the OPP East Region Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), executed a search warrant at an apartment on Angila Street.

Police seized a quantity of suspected methamphetamine and cocaine, along with a loaded 32-calibre handgun, a conducted energy weapon and materials associated with drug trafficking.

A 27-year-old man of Greater Napanee has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of a prohibited device or ammunition, careless storage of a firearm, weapon or ammunition and possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking.

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Napanee on July 28.
