The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has made an arrest following a string of robberies at businesses throughout eastern Ontario.
On Aug. 12 just before 11 a.m, an individual entered a business on Highway 41 in Northbrook and approached an employee indicating that they were armed and demanding cash. The individual then fled the scene in a vehicle with a quantity of cash.
On Aug. 14, 2022, just before 8 a.m., OPP Lennox and Addington Detachment officers conducting patrol located the vehicle matching the description from the robbery. The lone occupant was identified by police and arrested in connection to the Northbrook robbery. The accused has also been linked to two other robberies in Pembroke and Mississippi Mills.
As a result of the investigation, James Finnegan, 63 years-old, of no fixed address, has been charged under the Criminal Code with:
- Robbery with violence
- Disguise with intent
- Flight from peace officer
- Operation while prohibited
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
The accused appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on Aug. 15 for a bail hearing and was remanded in custody. They will appear again on August 21.
