Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s campaign trail took him through Hastings-Lennox and Addington on Sunday, where he joined riding MP Mike Bossio at Plainfield’s Frink Conservation Area.
The leader of the Liberal Party, joined by his sons Hadrien and Xavier, as well as Bossio and a handful of local children, planted trees in the conservation area before holding a press conference.

“Not only is it great to be outdoors, but it’s a good reminder that we can’t take these spaces for granted,” said Trudeau. “If we want all of our kids to be able to hike in our forests, and swim in our lakes, we have to step up and make sure that happens. Since 2015 we’ve worked long and hard to develop a real plan for the environment and the economy. From putting a price on pollution to banning single use plastics, we’re making progress. We know there’s lots more work to do.”
Trudeau said the trees planted on Sunday were part of a pledge by the Liberals to plant two billion trees over the next decade.
“Just like the trees we planted today, they’re going to pull carbon emissions out of the atmosphere to provide clean air not just for us, but for our grandkids and their kids,” said Trudeau. “As part of this commitment we will invest three billion dollars for natural climate solutions to conserve and restore everything from wetlands to agriculture land. Our plan will mean more jobs, in this case around 35,000 new positions and less pollution. We know we can fight climate change and grow the economy.”
