Singer/songwriter Andy Forgie will have the honour of officially kicking off March Break this Saturday when he performs at the Lennox and Addington County Museum and Archives at 2 p.m.
His show, titled Signing into Spring, will include songs that reference the upcoming warm season and serve as a reminder that winter is almost through.
“It’ll be my children and family show,” said Forgie, who performs across the Quinte and surrounding area for all ages. “This particular performance will have a slant towards the spring season. It’ll be a lot of light-hearted sunshiny songs, some that are traditional songs that have been around forever and a day, others that will be by some of the people who influenced me so much when I started out as a children’s entertainer, people like Raffi, Sharon, Lois and Bram and Fred Penner. I’ll also be doing some of my original children’s music.”
Forgie has released two children’s albums to date, along with producing and starring in the children’s program ‘The Song Shop’.
“There will be lots of sing alongs and clap alongs and get them up dancing to have some fun,” Forgie said of his Saturday performance. “We’re going to shake off those winter coats, winter boots and all the things that go along with it and get back into our regular attire and have some fun. Hopefully the weather will start to turn, I think we’ve all had enough of old man winter.”
Forgie’s show is the start of a busy week of activities planned during March Break throughout Lennox and Addington.
On Monday they will welcome Rag and Bone Theatre to the museum for two puppet-filled performances of The Wind and the Willows, one at 10:30 a.m. the other at 2 p.m. Admission is $3 and can be pre-purchased before hand at the museum or by calling 613-354-3027. Meanwhile at the Amherstview branch of the County of L&A Library will be a maker madness event, featuring Lego, crafts, snapcircuits, music and more, starting at 10:30 a.m.
On Tuesday Betsy Cotton, also known as the Dino Lady, will be at the Bath branch of the County of L&A Library to offer interesting dinosaur facts, tell some stories, play some games and lead some crafts. She’ll arrive at 10:30 a.m.
On Wednesday maker madness will come to the Napanee branch with Lego, crafts, music and more, starting at 10:30 a.m.
On Thursday Sisters of the Drum will lead a hands-on Aboriginal music workshop with songs and stories at the Tamworth branch of the County of Lennox Addington Library at 10:30 a.m.
Also on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. will be a Lego Exhibit, with a lego master on hand until 3:30 p.m.
The busy week concludes Saturday with a science presentation geared towards school-aged children at the Yarker branch of the County of L&A Library starting at 10:30 a.m.
