Out of this world March Break fun at the museum

L&A Museum's Felted Friends event on March 19 will see participants create their own alien creation.

Lennox and Addington Museum and Archives will have plenty of family fun on tap next week to keep the kids entertain over the March Break.

On Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the museum will host Exploring Meteorites with the Miller Museum.

Guests will learn about meteorites with the Miller Museum of Geology. They’ll have a chance to touch a real meteorite, learn about impact craters on earth, and search for micrometeorites and examine them under a microscope. This is a free drop in program. Those who would like to reserve a spot to secure a certain time can do so online.

The Miller Museum of Geology at Queen’s University is an active resource for people interested in geology, the study of the earth. Guests can marvel at the beautiful minerals and crystals from around the world in the extensive display gallery, dig for dinosaur fossils, and play in an augmented reality sandbox.

On Saturday participants are invited to join Pineapple Toolbox in exploring the wonders of space and creativity. Creatively construct a felt flying spacecraft with a little alien driver.

There will be two skill levels available, either the glue (kit 1) or sewing (kit 2) option.

Pineapple Toolbox’s very own owner and creator will be on site to teach the basics of creative expression and basic sewing techniques.

Each kit includes both pre-cut and scraps of felt and everything participants need to construct the two pieces.

For guests that don’t get to finish their project on site in the time provided, they will be given a link to a video tutorial that they can use again and again to make use of the kit to infinity and beyond. This event runs 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
