National Cupcake Day isn’t cancelled, but it will look different this year as the nation-wide fundraiser goes virtual.
Now in its ninth year, the event is once again in support of the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA) and Humane Society.
To help flatten the curve and keep people safe during this pandemic the OSPCA Lennox and Addington Animal Centre is asking supporters to raise funds for animals in need in their community by baking a difference at home with the National Cupcake Day Decorating Contest, presented by Milk-Bone and Robin Hood.
As a coordinated Canadian event to support local shelters, SPCAs and Humane Societies, animal lovers across Canada raised over $280,000 in 2020 in support of their favourite animal welfare organization. To date the campaign has raised $3.8 million.
“National Cupcake Day is the sweetest day of the year and we need your help to support vulnerable animals across Canada,” says Esther McCutcheon, manager of the OSPCA Lennox & Addington Animal Centre. “We’re challenging you to a bake off, so preheat those ovens and get ready to show off your cupcake decorating talents.”
The cupcake with the most votes in each of the four categories wins, so bakers will want to make sure to ask family and friends to visit the National Cupcake Day website before Feb. 22 to vote for their creation and make a donation to their online personal fundraising page.
National Cupcake Day runs all January and most of February and concludes on Monday Feb. 22, the official National Cupcake Day.
The Ontario SPCA and participating SPCAs, humane societies and rescue groups are charitable organizations that rely on the generosity of donors to change the lives of vulnerable animals. By taking part in National Cupcake Day and raising funds for the participating animal organization of their choice, people are providing urgently needed care and shelter for homeless animals.
