OPP say speeding 401 driver had contraband cigarettes, edible cannabis

On May 14 around 11:30 a.m officers of the Lennox and Addington OPP observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Hwy 401 eastbound near Belleville.

Officers conducted a traffic stop and observed cannabis readily available to the driver. After a search of the vehicle, police also recovered contraband edible cannabis and contraband cigarettes.

As a result of the investigation police have charged a 41-year-old female and a 39-year-old female both from Brantford with possession of unmarked cigarettes for the purpose of sale; and possession of unmarked cigarettes.

The driver was further charged under the Cannabis Control Act (CCA) with driving with cannabis readily available and with speeding under the Highway Traffic Act.  A passenger was charged with unlawful purchase of cannabis under the CCA.

Both accused will attend court on Sept. 3 to answer to the charges

Parents are encouraged to ensure their children are aware of the risks associated with illicit and contraband drugs, which can include cannabis gummies, which look like harmless candy.
