OPP offer Halloween safety tips

OPP is reminding the public of some safety tips as Halloween approaches.

Parents and children are encouraged to carry a flashlight or wear reflective material to increase their visibility when out. Also a reminder for children to walk instead of run, and to look and listen before crossing the street. As always, pedestrians are reminded and encouraged to utilize crosswalks and intersections where available.

Children are also reminded not to trick-or-treat alone, and to go in a group or with an adult. Children should try to remain in areas that are familiar and are reminded never to enter a stranger’s home to receive their treat. Lastly, the OPP encourage parents and adults to check over children’s treats before they are consumed.

Police also want to remind motorists to be cautious and drive slowly on Halloween night, as you can expect children will be out and about.
