OPP investigating collision with car and freight train in Stone Mills

The Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a collision involving a motor vehicle and a freight train on Ninth Concession Road in Stone Mills Township.

On January 19, 2024, just after 6:10 p.m., Frontenac County OPP and L&A County OPP responded to multiple 911 calls for a dark coloured car with no headlights visible driving the wrong way on Highway 401 in the City of Kingston. OPP temporarily closed Highway 401 East at County Road 6 Odessa to ensure public safety. Police were unable to locate the suspect vehicle and Highway 401 East was reopened to traffic.

On January 19, 2024, just before 8:00 p.m., L&A County OPP, Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) Police, L&A County Paramedic Services and Stone Mills Fire and Rescue responded to a collision involving a motor vehicle and a freight train on Ninth Concession Road in Stone Mills Township. There were no injuries as a result of the collision.

The driver of the motor vehicle fled from the scene before police arrived. The OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and OPP Canine Unit attended the scene to conduct a search but were unable to locate a suspect.

Investigators believe this was the same dark coloured vehicle observed driving the wrong way on Highway 401 in the City of Kingston. Police are requesting the publics assistance in identifying any persons of interest. And speaking with any witnesses to the collision or who may have dash cam video are urged to call the L&A County OPP Detachment at 1-888-310-1122.
