Old Hay Bay Church to hold pilgrimage service Aug. 22

On Sunday, Aug. 22 Old Hay Bay Church will welcome Rev. Dr. Orville James as the guest speaker for their annual Pilgrimage Service.

James was born in Ottawa, and grew up in a family steeped in Methodism and the Holiness movement. He is the son of a pastor and nephew of Wesleyan and Free Methodist pastors. Educated at Queen’s and Princeton, he has shared his message with congregants of the United Church of Canada in New Brunswick and Southern Ontario. He has served with the Methodist Church of Maine and has also done two exchanges with the British Methodist Church in England and Wales.

This year the service will be similar to a traditional ‘Camp Meeting’, as it will be held outside, so that large numbers can be accommodated. The congregation is asked to bring their own chairs or blankets to rest upon during the service.
The church will be open for viewing. Come in and experience the hard pews and the soft breeze from the Bay.

There will be books, prints and various other souvenirs for sale in side as well. Payment by cash or cheque.
A collection will be taken during the service to support the church. Envelopes will be provided so that tax receipts can be issued. Donations can also be made at Canadahelps.org or by mail to Harvey Nikkel, 1400 Benn’s Point Road, Napanee K7R 3K7.

The church is open for viewing on Friday, Saturday and Sundays during August and September (and holiday Monday).
Old Hay Bay Church is located at 2365 South Shore Road in Napanee.
