North Fredericksburgh Community Hall is undergoing some renovations that will benefit residents of all ages, ranging from youths through seniors.
Along with cosmetic upgrades such as new paint and polished floors with attention towards making it more accessible, the work will also include creating a more conducive atmosphere for youth programming.
“A new feature that we are excited about is the installation of an 8’ x 20’ climbing wall,” said Bethany Chadwick, Youth Programming and Special Events Clerk with the Town of Greater Napanee. “We removed a room added by the last tenant to create a 2,400 square foot activity space. The extra space will expand the functionality of the building. We will now be able to offer activities such as fuse ball, air hockey, and table tennis; activities that had limited room to function beforehand. The activity room can be used as exhibit space to complement the arts studio and community meeting room during the non-peak youth programming times.”
The renovations will add to the property which already includes the 15 acre North Fredericksburgh Sports Complex and includes three softball diamonds, two soccer pitches, a pair of tennis courts and a playground. The tennis courts were recently re-worked to include markings for pickleball at the end of last summer and there are plans to install disc golf this coming summer. Discussions are also taking place with a local seniors’ organization to add bocce ball and a horseshoe pit in the near future. A community garden has also been proposed as a future addition.
The next youth programming activity planned is the March Break Day Camp, which will run March 11-15. Registration is currently open for children between five-11 years old in-person at the Community and Corporate Services office or online through the ‘Camps’ page of the Town’s website, www.greaternapanee.com.
Since 2015 the hall has been used as a location of municipal youth programming and a temporary home for the Greater Napanee and Area Arts Association.
