Greater Napanee’s business community has put out the call for nominations in a handful of categories as they prepare for the 2017 Business Awards Event, which takes place Oct. 19.

The Town of Greater Napanee is once again partnering with the Napanee Business Improvement Area and the Napanee and District Chamber of Commerce for the event, which will celebrate local businesses and employees.

Members of the public along with fellow business owners can now submit nominations for the Youth Employee Award, Young Entrepreneur Award, Communities in Bloom Award, Milestone Award, Napanee BIA Award, Chamber of Commerce Award and two new awards this year in the Customer Service Award and Career Edge Empowering Employees Through Training Award.

The Customer Service Award allows for members of the public to nominate their favourite business and recognize some exceptional service they’ve received in the past. The Career Edge Empowering Employees Through Training Award recognizes employers in Lennox and Addington who provide training opportunities for their employees through a partnership with Career Edge.

A full list of criteria for all of the awards as well as nomination forms are available online at www.GreaterNapanee.com. All nominations must be made by Sept. 29.

Early bird tickets for the event are also on sale now for $25 until Oct. 1, at which point the cost will rise to $35 per person. Tickets are available by calling 613-354-9508. The evening will feature networking and live entertainment to go with the award presentations.

In keeping with the Canada 150 theme, the awards will also include a tribute to the last 150 years of the town and county.

“The organizations (Greater Napanee, BIA and Commerce) have been putting out posts on Facebook for ‘flash back Friday’, that just acknowledges Canada’s 150th and highlights some of our past businesses that have been important in the economic development of the community,” said Kathy Medd, Manager of the Napanee BIA. “People will want to keep an eye on that, we’ve got something coming out every Friday.”

Displays that celebrate the history of Napanee’s business community will be set up throughout the Lion’s Hall that evening as well.

The event, which will be in its fifth year, will be part of the town’s Business Week celebration.
